[Well as polite as usual, Vincent smiles gently.] Can I come in for a chat?

[Hey. He answered the door, at least. But he'll step aside and motion for Vincent to enter. An annoyed sigh.]

[He does and shuts the door behind him. He doesn't move to sit down however, instead he stands before Elliot. He extends his hand to feel along the boy's chest until he comes across the feel of an amulet--]

Sealing your soul was a high price to pay Elliot.

[Elliot froze at those words.]

How did you--?

[He stopped right there. There was only one person he told this about. There goes the trust with that person.]

Humpty-Dumpty is at rest isn't he? [His hand cups the amulet through Elliot's shirt.] But...how is one contract better than another?

[He doesn't answer that question. Instead, he'll gain a more serious tone.]

How much did he tell you?

Enough to know this must be corrected. [He beams.] What is it Elliot? What did it give you in exchange?

I do not need to tell this to you. Why are you curious about this all of a sudden?

As I said...one contract is not better than another. [And he's not about to have something interfere with all his effort.] You're still in bondage brother, and one day that time will end.

[Unlikely at least, deluded at most. Vincent knows how contracts work and it is never to the advantage of the indentured one. Elliot is young, hot headed, but Vincent never thought he was so foolish--]

Elliot, why do you think the house is on lock-down?

[Elliot stopped there. He wasn't told everything about it, just that it had been in such a state.]

I suppose you're going to tell me one way or another?

[Gilbert will be angry at me over this. Yet, it must be done.]

Because...I am being investigated for the Head Hunter murders. I suppose Mr. Norman did not tell you?

You..?! Why--

[Wait a minute, but-- Wasn't Elliot..?] I did talk to that man, yes.

[And he didn't like it.]

So...[He reaches for the back of Elliot's neck, to force him to look into his face.] I want Gilbert to keep his smile, even if I'm gone.

[Elliot continued to stare for a moment. This wasn't making sense to him. His voice got quiet.]

Humpty-Dumpty is gone. What are you talking about?

I am talking about that noble young men should not sacrifice themselves for dregs like me. [He laughs softly.] Let me break this contract.

I'll sacrifice what I want, understand me?! [Elliot was already irritated thanks to Norman, this didn't help one bit.] I swore that I would stop the Head Hunter on my own. Now that Humpty Dumpty is put to rest, I'm not letting you do anything like that!

What do you remember about Humpty-Dumpty's contract?

Hardly anything. It continued to remove the memories from when it had come out. But because of who I have recently agreed to a contract with, it showed me what I had done exactly.

It showed me Vanessa.. Claude and Ernest. When I did contract with Humpty Dumpty to save my life and then the killings it had done while here. Why is that important to you?

To warn you to not confess. [He puts a hand on his shoulder.] I know you're mad at Gil, but trust him. He...cherishes both of us really. I know you don't think so, but he does.

[Vincent's smile is weak and brittle, but genuine. If only it was different, if only I could take on all these sins...]

[Elliot took a moment to respond before looking into those mismatched eyes.]

If you say he cherishes us both, then you should stop sounding like you're about to do something extremely stupid, Vincent.

[He can't help but to grin at that.]

My, my, will you scold me about that too? Gilbert already wrung me out, don't worry.

[Family is family. You have to hang onto what you can when things get rough-- or so Elliot had thought. Even if Vincent wasn't someone Elliot had personally liked and connected with, he was still family! And--!]

What are you going to do, Vincent?!

Nothing really. [Because he's already done it. He waves his hand.] Don't get so upset, right now there are greater things to worry about.
