[Snake was correct on his assumption of Elliot being in his room. As a matter of fact, he took refuge in his bed with blankets brought up to mid-chest. In limp hands held a book he had been reading laying carefully on the fabric covers. From the looks of it, Elliot had been reading a book until he began dozing off. He does this often; reading a book until he can't keep his eyes open.
Laying back on his pillow, the slight consciousness he still had in him was used to rub sleep from his eye. It wasn't working. But the one thing that did seem to bring him to full attention was someone walking into his room. A small jolt upwards before he rubbed a blue eye once more.
Though once he noticed who it was, Elliot relaxed once more with back against pillow.]
Hey, Snake. [a questioning tone:]
You were out today, weren't you? [HE DIDN'T SEE YOU ):]
[Green eyes brim with smiles, and Snake rounds the bed lazily to sit on his side. Even when he's excited, when he wants nothing more than the sit shoulder to shoulder with Elliot and try to read the words on the pages, he's calm and relaxed. Shoulders naturally slump as he sits back against the pillows and pull his knees in to keep the heat from escaping.] I went out today, me and Webster.
[He sounds proud, with the side note that he wasn't alone to keep Elliot from worrying. He had the highly poisonous snake to protect him.]
the BITCHES BETTER RECOGNIZE action; eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
[He glanced from the book, towards Snake, and then back to the book. He listened to him talk, a finger lingering over a near-by bookmark so he could hold his place once he finished the paragraph he had been on. After shutting the book, he kept it within his lap while responding.
It was rare that he heard about Snake going out. Sure he goes out to the gardens, but even then Elliot still sees him around.]
[It is rare for Snake to leave the grounds, so it's not surprising that Elliot is, well, surprised. Home is where he likes to stay close to. "Don't wander too far from the tents, Snake." Back then, being able to walk free at all was overwhelming, and Joker curbed his urge to explore. Even now, he likes to walk the gardens barefoot. It feels more free that way.
He looks up at Elliot.] I went to see Fang, and Master Leo had tea with us.
[It's clear he's not scared. Yelling is something he's used to. He's just confused. Fang is a nice person, someone who reminds Snake of the circus. And he thought Leo and Elliot were friends. Elliot had talked about so many nice memories before.]
[But... Elliot wants to know where he's going, that's why he wants Snake to ask, right? That makes sense.
"You have to ask if you want to go somewhere, okay? You can't go alone." He'd asked Joker why, then. Just like now, with the question in his eyes before it's on his lips.
"There are people out there who will mistreat you because you're different, Snake. Like the ringmaster we saved you from. But you can't tell who's nice and who's not. So just stick with us, stick with your family, okay?"
He hadn't left the boundaries of the circus once after that... not until-]
[He needed to calm down. Slowly taking a seat upon the bed, Elliot closed his eyes. Part of him hoped Snake wouldn't ask why, but after all the screaming he had just done there needed to be given a reason.]
Because the Baskerville family aren't well liked anymore, they did a lot of horrible things. But that's all that you need to know, alright? [A sigh, leaning forward and speaking in an almost worried yet hopeful tone.]
Do not go over there without me, at least. Alright?
But- [He falls quiet, turning his concerns inward. People always said he was a freak, that the people in the circus troupe were too strange to be liked. Ciel said they did horrible things. Being an outcast doesn't always mean it's deserved in his mind. But...
Sympathetic eyes upturn.] I'm not well liked either, Elliot. I'm a freak. [Somehow it's just said matter-of-factly. It's just the way things are.] But I promise, I won't go without you.
[ At the sound of the word 'freak', Elliot's eyes widened. Reaching his hand out, he paused momentarily before carefully clutching one of the other's. Elliot didn't mean it that way; Snake didn't know what they had done. ]
Listen to me, I didn't mean it like that. [ --a tighter hold on that hand before he hesitantly leaned in and placed a small kiss on a patch of scales against Snake's cheek.]
You're not a freak either, understand me? Everyone is unique and shouldn't be addressed as such a thing.
